Débora is a girl from Brazil who came to Colombia to learn Spanish, having Portuguese as her mother tongue, some learning processes are much easier. When talking about some cultural differences between Colombia and Brazil, which despite being Latin countries are very different from each other, one of the first impressions according to her is that: “the roles are more closed, it is not like in Brazil, where we have contact, we hug, kiss, it's natural, even if I don't know the person, it's normal and here it's like when you get close to someone, they think they're going to rob you, I think it's for security, everyone is afraid , but the first thing I thought is that they were all like the Coast, all open, that they talked and that, but here everyone is very friendly" and one of the distinctions between Colombians and Brazilians is that of the things that men are more respectful towards women here compared to Brazil, for that very reason, it was more comfortable and easier for her to go out here.
On the other hand, in terms of security, both countries are similar, the first expression he learned here was: “don't give papaya on the street” in Bogotá and in São Paulo it's the same, it's normal. As for the food, both are similar, however, he says that "it scares him that Colombians eat a lot" the breakfasts are: chocolate + tamale + cheese + bread instead in Brazil it is just bread and coffee, always lighter things, too It seems very cool (cool) that lunch here in Colombia has soup and then the main course. In turn, the weather was something very strange for her, because she thought that the entire climate in the country was like in Brazil, hot, in Bogotá it is different, during the day it is "sunny, but at night it is very cold", now, when talking about traffic, she emphasizes that it is similar in Brazil, but says that here we are very messy and that is why Colombians are late (usually our students always say: Colombian time).
One of her favorite things about Bogotá is that, although it is a city to work in, it is still very quiet to be able to enjoy, the rolos take the time to drink a coffee with friends, dance, enjoy small activities, salsa, singing, among other things. Finally, when speaking of Spanish as a language, she says that she likes it a lot, that it is a very romantic language, full of sounds, life, love, intonation "it is a sung language", it is a very intense language, studying in Colombia has been a great experience for her, because she has always been in an immersive context which has challenged her to always speak the language, with friends, in cafes.
Nueva Lengua represented for Débora the opportunity to improve various skills of her Spanish, but it went beyond that, with cooking classes, dance, and various cultural activities, she felt that she had the opportunity to get to know the culture of Colombia, to live the herself, but also to get to know different countries through her colleagues from Switzerland, the United States, Canada, among others.
