In Colombia there are many places that are relevant due to their great influence on the history of the Colombian people, such as cities such as Cartagena, Villa de Leyva or Santa Marta, as well as some indigenous towns of the Sabana Cundiboyacense (composed of the departments of Cundinamarca and Boyacá).
One of these places is in the interior of the country, in the capital city, Bogotá. A small neighborhood that was the cradle of Creole culture and the country's political power: the traditional neighborhood of La Candelaria.

If you are in Bogotá, or plan to come to know the capital of Colombia, La Candelaria is one of the obligatory stops during your visit. So that you know which are those places that you cannot miss, in the Spanish school Nueva Lengua We tell you about our most recent tour of the neighborhood.
Candelaria Tour

Our students from Canada, Switzerland, Germany, France, the Czech Republic and the United States had the opportunity to get to know this great place, with its streets and old houses, where characters such as Simón Bolívar, Latin American liberator and founder of Gran Colombia, the director of the first botanical expedition of the continent, Mr. José Celestino Mutis, and, more recently, the Nobel Prize for Literature Gabriel García Márquez.
During the tour of La Candelaria you can see many colonial houses that today are home to important museums and cultural centers, such as the Bogotá Museum, the Santa Clara Museum, the National Astronomical Observatory, or the famous Palacio de Nariño, current house of the presidency of the Republic of Colombia.

In the heart of La Candelaria is the Plaza de Bolívar, the site where the city was founded on August 6, 1538. There we were able to hear about various confrontations that took place by the criollos (Spanish born or nationalized as Colombians) against of the Spanish kingdom; In addition to why the square has been so important in political and social discussions throughout the country's political and social history.

However U.Sówe limit it to these spaces: also We toured another of the famous places in this magnificent Bogota neighborhood, like the crowded Chorror of Quevedo, emblematic place to try the traditional purple corn liquor.

In addition, the visit to the Chorro is very fun and of great cultural value, since the best storytellers of the city meet there to tell stories of the ancient Muiscas or of the recent inhabitants of the city.

Finally, and to close our tour, we were in the Plaza de los Periodistas, a place known for its water channels and spectacular architectural design whose restoration was in the hands of the acclaimed Colombian architect Rogelio Salmona.
