The Sweet Festival is an event of great cultural and tourist importance in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. It is celebrated annually and is an opportunity for visitors and residents of the city to enjoy the delicious traditional sweets and desserts of the Colombian Caribbean region.  

What is it? 

It is an opportunity for tourists to learn more about the culture and history of Cartagena, as well as to try the delicacies that are part of the identity and tradition of the city. There are tastings and exhibitions of the various sweets and desserts made by local pastry chefs and cooks. In addition, contests, workshops and conferences are organized to encourage community participation and promote the culinary culture of the region. 

When it's made? 

This Festival was born as a tribute to the Catholic traditions of Holy Week, an event of vital importance and significance for believers in the region. Thus, it begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday.  

Where to participate 

The Festival takes place in different places in the city. Its inauguration takes place in the Centennial Park, and continues in different squares of the Historic Center of the city, as well as in the traditional Gethsemane neighborhood.  

What can you try? 

Some of the most popular sweets found in the Sweet Festival are cocadas, meringues, tamarind balls, in addition to the immense variety of flavors, also due to the harvest of many of the region's fruits, such as mango , plum, cherry, and of course other fruits such as corozo, apple, papaya, star star, curious flavors such as yam (tuber), and experimental flavors, such as tomato, or fruit mixes with papaya with coconut, strawberry and mango, among others .

1. The Cartagena Sweet Festival is important for several reasons. First of all, it is a celebration of the rich culinary culture of the Caribbean region of Colombia, which has been influenced by indigenous, African and Spanish traditions.
