michelle sager is a 27-year-old German woman who lives in Hamburg, a vibrant and sometimes fast-paced city. She is a determined and adventurous girl who likes to experience new things, especially trying new foods. In Colombia she has experienced and has known new customs and cultural traditions. For her, the best thing about Cartagena is the weather, the sea, the beach, and of course the food. For Michelle, life in Colombia is calmer and more tranquil. When she sees people walking down the street, sharing her life with her neighbors and enjoying free time, she finds it refreshing, because it is very different from her city. people here are very relaxed and open, although she has not met many people, they have always been very friendly and helpful.

Michelle's experience at school has been something new and refreshing for her. A new way of learning, creating and sharing knowledge with her classmates and teachers, for her although it is important to assimilate and practice her Spanish, the cultural aspects represent a greater wealth in her personal growth.

For Michelle to be part of the volunteering in the Nueva Lengua School so far has been the best of his experiences in Colombia, in his words: “It was fun: being able to help with a good cause, being with the children, playing with them and teaching them English, the most unexpected thing for me was learning from the children, they always teach me new words so I can expand my vocabulary; I especially remember that they taught me that in Spanish it has several names to call a fruit, and now I know that here they call watermelon patilla. I think it is very important to help children learn English, it is important because they do not always have the opportunity and also English is now an important language "

How about the experience of being a teacher?

I had already known the experience of being in front of other people, exhibiting and being in charge, but now it was different, it was difficult to be with the children because you have to get their attention and keep them interested in the class. And some are attentive and others are not, but there is a girl that I have not forgotten from the first times I volunteered, she is 6 years old and she is so adorable, she learned very quickly and learned a lot in the classes, she is very attentive and affectionate, he smiles with me all the time, and that makes me feel very happy. He always greeted us with a hug and raised his hand when he wanted to give us the correct answer or wanted to ask something ... It really was something incredible.

Would you like to repeat the volunteer experience?

Yeah right. It is something that I would like to do again here in Colombia and also in other countries, but above all because I can be with the children and learn with them and get to know the culture from a different point of view, because normally I cannot speak with them, hopefully that children could always be in school. With them you can have a very different cultural exchange than you normally have with adults. Children have a way of seeing life and the city that is very interesting for me, it is an exchange of cultures. I think that children usually do not think so much about what they are going to say and that makes them use a more colloquial language, more used in the streets and makes them even more open.

If you want to live an experience similar to Michelle's, nueva lengua it is the perfect place for you. Nueva Lengua It is a school with a social sense, which is interested in being able to help and share with the community in which it is located. Come to Cartagena and get to know the city in a different way. Live and share the Cartagena culture.
