At school Nueva Lengua We receive many students from different countries of the world who come from all continents. Some of our students only accompany us for a short period of time, but they leave an indelible mark by having shared part of their culture and history with them. However, we also have students who accompany us for a long time in order to learn a little more about Colombian culture. Those students leave a great void when they leave because there is uncertainty as to whether we will see them again or if they will return to the country. However, sometimes, we do have students retake or return to continue their studies or achieve better fluency in order to be more confident speaking and/or working in a Spanish-speaking country.

Recently, a girl from Brazil resumed her classes with us. Cristiane Alves came to Nueva Lengua last year (2022) in the month of March and she studied with us for 1 month and a half, but she lives here in Bogotá with her husband and children for a year. From her first day at the school, Cristiane stated that she really liked the dynamics and methodology of the classes because she could learn and practice while she interacted with locals and students from other countries in order to get to know other cultures through from Spanish. It was a surprise for her to see her again and have her at such a high level, so we talked to her to find out the reason she had for her to resume her classes.

– Why did you choose to come to Colombia? Colombia chose us, my husband is on a diplomatic mission for the Brazilian army. For the whole family it is being a great surprise and we are super happy to be here representing our country while getting to know the incredible Colombian culture: its people, its corners, its colors… a great experience for us.

– What motivated you to learn Spanish? ANDIn truth, I have always liked Spanish, I always loved it because of the songs and the exciting way they speak Spanish. Living here, then, has been a great opportunity to be able to learn in a serious way since before I had the opportunity to work with teams from Latin America and learn a little. However, having the experience of living in a Spanish-speaking country is undoubtedly much better.

– What has been the strangest thing you have learned about Colombia? The different ways in which Spanish is spoken in relation to the different departments of this country. His unusual love for corn and the variety of fruits found in every corner. Something that impacts is the religiosity that exists and the possibility of traveling to the beach or to the snow at any time of the year. Although, I was able to observe that we share a historical context of colonization similar to Brazil. Lastly, his incredible passion for cycling, for music and national dance rhythms.

– What did you think of the country to live in? Living in Colombia has been a great gift, a happy surprise for us and for all our friends and family who come to visit us. Everyone returns to Brazil a little in love with Colombia, since it is a colorful country like ours, with happy and welcoming people.

– Do you recommend the school as a life experience? Of course! Nueva Lengua It's not just a Spanish schoolIt is a true life experience, we not only learn the language but also get to know other cultures; Likewise, we learn to respect cultural differences even more. It is a great change of experiences and stories. Likewise, with the extracurricular activities you can have a true immersion in the language, the customs, the local life... it is totally very enriching together with the dynamics of the teachers, we never have a boring day in class. I always recommend the school to everyone who is looking to learn Spanish as a foreign language.

Cristiane, like other students, sees the great work that the school does to teach such a diverse but enriching culture through one component: learning Spanish. That's why you also motivate yourself to learn one nueva lengua and thus experience a different and novel culture. Come to Nueva Lengua and have fun learning!
