An essential activity to do in Colombia in general is to taste the quantity of such varied fruits, unknown to some in Europe, and at a more than affordable price!
This was what we were able to do with Anderson Mejía, who is in charge of the administration of the school Nueva Lengua in Medellín, and who took us to a popular market in the center of the city called “market square” where everyone comes to do their shopping, with prices being lower than in the supermarket. We were able to taste fruits such as pitaya, tree tomatoes (which do not have a French translation), mangoes, various fruits of the passion fruit family such as passion fruit and passion fruit, feijoa guava, as well as lulo.
Furthermore, one of the assets of this particular place is the ecological aspect: in fact, the entire upper floor is dedicated to the production of natural fertilizers by different means (simple compost or with the help of worms), but we were also able to discover ingenious ideas such as a fridge to keep vegetables fresh without electricity, an oven and a solar dehydrator to dry aromatic herbs. All possible materials are recycled for use in this ecological greenhouse: rainwater, waste from the market on the ground floor, containers, etc. are reused, which allows for maximum optimization of resources.
Finally, the pleasant atmosphere and the great diversity of products available in the market, from typical Colombian kitchen utensils (hearth to make arepas, wooden spoons) to medicinal and aromatic herbs make it possible to spend a pleasant moment strolling through the alleys!
In short, a pleasant and interesting afternoon, I recommend it!
