The richness and diversity of a language always represent a challenge, not very easy to assume, but not impossible to achieve.

Noah, is a 23-year-old American student, who from a very early age began to study Spanish, in seventh grade he began his adventure in the world of learning a nueva lengua, but why choose Spanish among so many options?: “I thought it was the most useful language, in the United States especially, but also in the world. There are 22 countries that speak Spanish, for me it is important to be able to speak with more people.” Throughout his life, Noah has participated in various volunteering, and being able to speak with Spanish speakers who did not speak English in the same spaces. He made me feel that I could help them, and more so in medical contexts; this is something that he liked a lot and encouraged him to improve his Spanish in a live context.

Now, among so many countries that speak Spanish, Noah chose Colombia for several reasons: he has always heard that Bogotá is a very cultural city full of history, in his words: "it's a chimba", on the other hand, his desire was to live in a Spanish-speaking country to improve their skills in an immersive context. Although there are more options and they are still in his mind, such as Havana, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Bogotá was the chosen one, for him all the migratory processes are much easier here, at the same time, the people in Colombia have seemed very friendly, it's easy to make friends here, for him we Colombians are: "beautiful people, what I liked most about the school is meeting the teachers, being able to talk with them and thus practice my Spanish, but also learn about the culture and the history of Colombia.

On the other hand, when I asked him what he liked most about Spanish, apart from the sounds and rhythms of the Spanish language, he strangely replied that the consistency of the grammatical rules of Spanish was very interesting to him, something that he does not feel so present in his mother tongue, according to him he is a “nerd” so he loves the structure of our language. Now, one of the great difficulties for Noah, and what he feels has improved being in Nueva Lengua, is his ability to listen: “for me it is more difficult to understand others than to speak or express myself, that is why I wanted to live an immersive experience, I can be exposed to many different accents, such as: the coast, Boyacá, Bogotá, well, each place has its own accent”, although there are situations where Noah cannot understand everything perfectly, he has improved his process a lot by being with us.
