It is the capital of Colombia and has about eight million inhabitants. It is surrounded by the mountains of the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes and throughout the year has a temperature that ranges between 6 and 24 ° C being the annual average of 15 ° C. It is 2600 meters above sea level.

Although there are no seasons, it does have seasons of abundant rain and another of drought.

Before the arrival of the Spanish to America, Bogotá was inhabited by the Muisca indigenous people. When the Spanish arrived, Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada officially founded the city with the name of Bacatá on August 6, 1538.

Thus, with twelve little houses and a church, what today is one of the most thriving and diverse cities in the country was born. Today, it has an area of ​​more than 1775 square kilometers and a whole bunch of tourist places to visit in and around the city.

MONSERRATE

It is located in the eastern hills of the city, at 3152 meters above sea level. At the highest part of this mountain is the Basilica of the Lord of Monserrate, a place of Catholic pilgrimage since colonial times, also visited for its natural and gastronomic attraction and of course for the beautiful view it offers of the Colombian capital.

You can ascend on foot along a 2,5-kilometer path that has two viewpoints; also by cable car and funicular.

On clear days you can see the snowy mountains of Tolima and Ruiz.

  • Gold Museum: It is the entity in charge of the acquisition, conservation and exhibition of goldsmith and pottery pieces from the pre-Columbian period of the different indigenous cultures that inhabited the country. Its pre-Hispanic collection is considered the largest in the world with approximately 34 pieces of gold, 25 ceramic, stone, shell, bone and textile objects.
  • Collection of the Bank of the Republic:
    • Exchange house: It is the place that gathers the first coins minted in America in 1622. In addition, the instruments with which they were made.
    • Botero Museum: It has 87 works of art from the Fernando Botero collection and 123 from the artist's personal collection.
    • Art Museum of the Bank of the Republic: the collection began in 1957 and has more than 4500 works of which about 450 are regularly exhibited.
  • Luis angel arango library: it has more than two million books in an area of ​​45 thousand square meters distributed in six floors and two basements. Every day it receives more than 5 thousand visitors.
  • Quevedo's fountain: According to the chroniclers, it was the place where the Zipa Muisca observed the city. Everything seems to indicate that the conqueror Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada established his military garrison there.
  • Fifth of Bolivar: It was the residence of Simón Bolívar. In addition to being a place visited for its architectural interest, it is relevant from a historical point of view.
  • Bolivar plaza: It is the main square of Bogotá. An hour and a half from Bogotá, in the salt mines of Zipaquirá is the second largest cathedral temple built underground in the world. Inside there is a rich artistic collection of salt and marble sculptures with a deep religious sense.

Medellin

  • Barefoot Park: It is a public space created for people to walk at home, relax and enjoy water fountains, a bamboo forest, a Zen garden and a sand park. It is in the center of the city.
  • Botanical Garden of Medellín Joaquín Antonio Uribe: there are fourteen hectares of extension dedicated to a great collection of the national flower, the orchid; and more than a thousand kinds of flowers. It has a large lake in the center of the park where visitors can paddle canoes. In addition, they can ride a donkey instead.

CARTAGENA
