Scott Cooper, a student from Canada, had a great experience in the Musical Capital of Colombia at the hands of Nueva Lengua. Our Ibagué campus has a school and a hostel, so, in addition to learning Spanish, students can stay and get to know different and important places of biodiversity and Colombian culture. Scott visited us for two weeks, and here we tell you about some of the activities we prepared for him.
El Tolima is one of the main ecological nuclei of Colombia. Famous for its impressive landscapes, the incomparable variety of ecosystems offered by this department ranges from the hottest deserts to the highest snow-capped peaks in the entire country. For this reason, one of Scott's favorite plans was the tour of the Los Sauces viewpoint, from where you can see the entire Combeima Canyon at its best: a unique place for hiking and contemplating the natural wonders of the region. Andean.
We also visited Casa Mundo Sonoro, a museum specialized in musical artifacts from all over the planet, where we learned about the origin of various percussion, wind, and string instruments, and we even had fun learning to play some of them.
As is customary at our school, Scott had the experience of taking cooking classes and preparing some delicious empanadas. He also attended dance classes and was able to practice various tropical rhythms.
Another of the natural places that we met was the wonderful waterfall of La Plata. To get to this beautiful place we walked for about 2 hours, a strenuous walk but, without a doubt, it was completely worth it. Ibagué offers ideal destinations for ecotourism and hiking of all levels.
The second week of the trip was very diverse and exciting. We walked through the streets and tourist places of the city, we visited the “La misericordia” nursing home, where we made a donation, and we also visited the Panoptic Museum, an old prison that became a museum and portrays the culture and history of Tolima.
In addition to music and nature, Ibagué is a city moved by sports. We spent an exciting night at the Manuel Murillo Toro Stadium, watching a Copa Sudamericana soccer match. The local team, Deportes Tolima, defeated Junior de Barranquilla with a score of 1-0. Goals, music and emotions were definitely not lacking. And to close this athletic experience with a flourish, we went to play the national sport of Colombia: shuffleboard!
Like all the students who come to visit us, Scott ended up falling in love with the city. “It was gratifying and enriching. Learning Spanish, sharing with another culture, other people, trying new food, visiting magical places and walking the streets of Ibagué will always remain in a very special place in my heart”.
The best of hiking, music and sports in the Andean region await you in Ibagué. with our school Nueva Lengua You will be able to live these and many more experiences while you learn and perfect your level of Spanish.
