Experience in Nueva Lengua, Bogota
Mathias Weibel
I arrived in Bogotá to study Spanish for two months before traveling more in Latin America… two months is enough, right? I wanted to open new doors and be able to get to know people more deeply during my travels. Although there are many places where you can learn Spanish, I loved the mountains and the aura of culture and history in Bogotá. And… besides… he had the cheapest plane ticket. However, I am very happy that I chose Bogotá and Nueva Lengua because the classes carry a mixture of challenge and fascination, and the teachers know both well - how to teach and how to inspire the interest levels of the students.
The experience of living in a place immersed in language and culture is a great benefit. I have been fortunate to have opportunities to travel to nearby towns and parks, live with a Colombian family, and make deeper relationships with people than I could have done on a shorter trip. I have eaten dishes from many regions, I have discovered chicha and of course I have danced salsa, vallenato and cumbia (or tried to anyway). weekends in Guatavita, Villa de Leyva, La Vega and Chicaque Natural Park They were a change of pace from Bogotá, and it has made me realize that it is a country with much more beyond. I want to return to Colombia next year to continue exploring its diversity, but I have lived in Bogotá for quite a while.
Also, I have achieved my first goal in starting this journey, which was to gain a new perspective. I believe this can only be done by spending time in a leisurely place, with an open mind and by letting the unknown make itself known.
All the articles in this blog have been written by the teachers of our school and by students from different countries who traveled to Colombia to learn Spanish.
