University, or the U, as we call it in Colombia, is a very important and interesting stage of life for, if not all, many young people in the world. There we meet people who may have our same objectives or goals and, why not, we can meet those who could be our best friends for life. Once we begin to treat our partners, a very close friendship will begin. Well, we begin to spend more time with our friends when we study in the library or at someone's house "going straight"[1] or staying up late.

And who has not gone to take some "poles"[2] with their “partners”[3] after school? Or who hasn't "caping class"[4] ever? Which does not mean that it is a Colombian custom, but rather something of young people. And it does not mean that these are the only experiences that are had in the U. Well, most of the universities in Colombia are in strategic places, where students can find quiet places to study and have something like coffee shops [5], or places to relax and have fun like bars with current music. Not to mention that they are also close to tourist places where they can appreciate the culture of the locals. Specifically in Bogota,, we have most of the universities in the center of the city. There are the museums (Gold Museum, Currency Museum, Botero Museum), the oldest neighborhood, restaurants with typical food, the very famous Monserrate, among others.

I still remember when I was studying at the University (a lifetime ago... haha). I felt nervous, but excited to study what I chose; philosophy. It was an unusual race, but amazing for me. On Fridays I always went out with my friends to a place near the university to share a pleasant time in the company of a beer or, why not, a "nip"[6] de brandy [7], but always getting good grades.

At the University we also had opportunities to study in other countries; a very tempting offer that, for various reasons, I could not take. However, I really enjoyed it. I made friends, I had a boyfriend, I had happiness, sadness, etc. However, my best friend did go on an exchange to Europe for a semester. It was an enriching experience for her, because she not only studied part of her career, but also got to know new cultures and learned a new language. A memory that still lingers in his memory.

The same thing happened to Hanne, a girl from Norway who came to Colombia to do an exchange semester at one of the best universities in the country, which, by the way, is close to the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden and the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. . When she arrived, she already had a sufficient level of Spanish to communicate, but it was necessary and also very positive for her academic process to continue learning and practicing the language. In this way, the Norwegian had the opportunity to do so, and to meet people from other countries in her Spanish school and Colombian people at the university.

Like Hanne, many other foreigners have had this experience at the university in Colombia, for personal motivation or because their work requires it. In any case, many have been encouraged to do so.
