Medellin, the city of eternal spring, is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Colombia; characterized by the neighborhoods on the rise with countless skyscrapers, the flower fair with silleteros and local festivals, the communes that tell, through graffiti, the history of the city, the incredible kindness of the paisas and the scenic beauty that It can be seen from anywhere in the city, making Medellín "the city that everyone recommends visiting in Colombia."

I visited this city a month ago and I had an amazing time there teaching Spanish and exploring the city with my students, we visited different places in the city, we ate together in some restaurants recommended by acquaintances in The town. Our school is located there, close to multiple restaurants, buildings and bars. Likewise, we enjoy the temperate and sunny climate of Medellín every day, with the occasional brief rain.

I asked my students why they think Nueva Lengua Medellin and Medellín as such are a good place to learn Spanish, and I am now sharing some of their answers with you:

Medellin is “a very special city, one of my favorites, with very friendly people and climate” Lesley, an American student at our school, who has traveled to different parts of the country such as Nuquí and Minca, told me when I asked her opinion about this place. “As you walk through the city, when you go to a store, the locals are open to talk with you, to answer your questions and share with you their culture”.

I couldn't agree more, because in my experience, the first time I visited this city, the taxi driver who took me to my hotel recommended more than 7 places to visit in the city in 10 minutes and explained how to get to each one of them, giving me the warmest welcome.

Likewise, Lesley affirmed, the capital of Antioquia “it has many natural vibes, around Medellin there are many natural places to explore” with towns like El Retiro or the famous Guatapé, with the enormous peñol that no one misses when visiting this city, the aerial image of the city has a predominant green tone.

Like this natural park, most of the emblematic places are accessible through the city's public transport system. One of the other places visited at the school was the Commune 13, a representative place of the city that expresses through the graffiti and art the history of the communes in Colombia, about this our student Simeon, from Switzerland, expressed “It is a highlight of this experience, because it is a place with a very strong Colombian history, but now it shines thanks to its people and not thanks to violence”. The guides of the commune, with their unmistakable paisa accent, are people who have always lived there and generously share their life story with people who visit them from all over the world.

Thus, the conclusion we reached after talking about Medellín with the students of Nueva Lengua is that: “It is the city that everyone likes, from which everyone has a recommendation on a place to see, a food to try, a bar to go to dance…”, full of kind people, incredible natural landscapes and many things to discover. This while learning Spanish in a city full of people who are willing to practice with you and always say goodbye with a smile and a "see you soon".

We hope that after reading this you really want to come and make this one of your favorite cities. We will wait for you!

Even in Medellin we find the Arvi Park, an ecological natural park of 16.000 hectares, an hour and a half from the city center; with an incredible landscape full of green, waterfalls, lagoons, nature trails and a different environment. Visiting this place with a group of students, Julian from Belgium said: “It feels like a completely different place, it is a different face of Medellin, very close”.

We arrived at Parque Arví by metro and metro cable, all connected through the Medellín public transport network.

All these places and many others such as museums: the parks that link science with tourism or the botanical garden... are part of those that we visit with the school during the afternoons, in our cultural activities that complement the classes in Nueva Lengua. As Ria from Indonesia said, “there is a family atmosphere in the school, of community and friendliness”, we always hope to welcome students with open arms, as is customary in our country, because there is nothing better than arriving in a new place and seeing a familiar face smiling.
