A good way to start the route through the convent is to arrive at mass at seven in the morning, then at the door with your name written in the guest book, the nuns begin to give information.

First a general explanation without attachments. The nun's life was not easy. On the contrary, since he was born he lived hard days.
Benedito Convent

Laura Montoya was born in Jericó. She resided in this place for only two years. He left the house because of the violence and went to Amalfi in extreme poverty. All this after she was orphaned by her father who was murdered.

Anderson Mejía Mother Ligia

Faced with the difficulty, his mother must flee and almost give the house away. So that she and her other two brothers don't starve. This is how he begins a life full of struggles to get ahead with his dream that managed to become a reality: Evangelize the indigenous and black people of the most isolated regions of the country.

Prayer of Saint Laura

ONE ALLIANCE, A THOUSAND MIRACLES

Today it is said that thanks to her, God worked wonders in favor of the indigenous people and that is why he had to make some alliances even with beasts.

Plaques of gratitude

Her alliance with God and the beasts began the day the nun Laura prayed and, thanks to a vision, she understood that nature should be considered a second sanctuary.

But how could she love the animals that wanted to eat her and her missionaries?
Then Santa Laura asked God for enlightenment to travel without fear. It is at that moment that he had a vision. A huge number of snakes rose as a sign of deification to creation.

Therefore, she told God that she was very grateful to see creation praising her. And she was in that vein with him, but understood that certain wild beasts were insurmountable barriers to evangelization.
Why? because people are afraid and do not want to risk the jungle. It's that easy: people who were afraid of snakes did not go on missions to evangelize. The snakes were there, in Frontino, in Nutibara, in Dabeiba or in Murrí.
Mother Laura, reluctantly from the church hierarchy at the time. She went to those communities in her 40s to speak about Jesus.
Chapel of Santa Laura

He traveled to the virgin places of the civilization of Antioquia, in the first half of the XNUMXth century. Looking for indigenous people who literally lived without God or law.

Relics of Santa Laura

That's what he felt when God told him: calm down.

Later, in a promise that is kept for 110 years. While they don't kill snakes, they won't do any harm. This is how it is agreed and this is how it is achieved.
Remains of Santa Laura

The lauritas have lived in the most inhospitable places of Chocó, Darien, Amazonas and they have never done anything to them.

Pray before the relics
This story that clears up just one of the many complications when it comes to sending people to indigenous missions. They are part of many more actions about the life of sacrifice and devotion of the nun Laura Montoya, the first and only sacred woman in Colombia.
Plates instead of milacles

Just three years after being in the middle of the jungle, the curch recognized diocesan approval, that means they recognized his work and mission. His congregation also had his support.

Plaques of gratitude

An important achievement is that if we take into account that at that time, the women called indigenous, black or civilized in Medellín, Bogotá and Cali were only good for having children and cooking. Yes or no? Unfortunately this was the case, in the opinion of the nun who accompanied the visit.

A PLACE TO CLOSE TO GOD

The place where the nun's remains rest is located in the El Belencito neighborhood of the beautiful city of Medellín. Fortunately for visitors throughout the year there is always the same unique climate in the world because there is neither cold nor heat. Not in vain do Colombians call Medellín the city of eternal spring.

The street that surrounds the convent was baptized with the name of the nun Laura in recognition of this Paisa woman (from Medellín). That she had the mission of saving souls and on the way, changing the destiny of all those women who found a new meaning in their lives when they met God and wanted to make him known with the same joy and spontaneity that the nun Laura did.

This cheerful, witty, cultured and controversial woman who always dignifies the role of women and her performance as a disciple of Jesus.

The convent can be reached by taxi, bus, metro or Metrocable. The congregation founded by the nun Laura lives there to serve the evangelization of indigenous communities.

To achieve this, he imitated the actions, the procedure and the performance of Santa María with whom he maintained a very intimate relationship. He did “more than an errand”, according to the nun Ligia during the tour.

For example, once the nun Laura asked her holy Mary, trusting in heaven: “Blessed mother, I only have pennies and I need to go to Rome. But you know that I have many needs and I cannot spend that money on boats and hotels. You don't have the need that I bear. Thus, when the holy pope touched the pillow with his head, he made him feel the moan and groan of indigenous, black and poor people ”.

So he blindly trusts the mother of his heaven, who spends those savings on going to Dabeiba to evangelize some Embeba katios.

A month and a half, the holy Pope Pius X published an encyclical in which he narrated the very difficult situation that these minority groups were experiencing.

Like these reflections, the Lauritas are responsible for narrating the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who visit them in search of information, comments and questions. Above all, since Pope Francis proclaimed her a saint in 2013.

PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE

The temple that Laura's mother built in 1940 and which was inaugurated in 1944. It is preserved exactly the same as when she left it. Last year the roof was changed for safety reasons because it has been preserved since its construction. She designed the pillar ornament in honor of the indigenous people who lived unhappy because their culture was ruined. The route is not long, it could even be said that there are few to walk. However, be prepared to stay on your feet for a few hours. While doing it, very slowly, he was reading some phrases that he immortalized and also that he gives congratulations slogans to work, spiritual life and devotion. The order was baptized as the Missionaries of Charity of Saint Catherine of Siena and still has a presence in at least twenty-two countries. All the nuns who chose to follow the order of Mother Laura do not wear makeup, or jewelry, or have luxuries of any kind. Their tunics or clothing are equally simple and uniform for every day of life: a calf-length skirt made of soft fabric and a short-sleeved shirt to the elbow, a white stocking, and low black shoes without ups and downs. With silver hair always dizzy and under a stole that covers the head. Her hair falls down her neck to her height. Sister Ligia wears a perfume that is slightly felt and imitates the scent expelled by camandulas carved in rosewood. After walking through the corridors, Sister Ligia stopped by the statue of her superior: Saint Laura, the woman who died in 1949 and was canonized in 2013.

THE MIRACLES

There is an endless list of miracles that according to the parishioners they received thanks to the intercession of Saint Laura Montoya. The fury awakened by his works and miracles had been so successful that a telenovela inspired by his life was filmed in Colombia and was successfully broadcast in more than 70 countries.

A notoriety that the nun did not seek and that she never imagined - said the tour guide. Typeless, a popularity difficult to describe.

Sister Ligia, accompanies the route through the corridors, rooms and altars every day from Monday to Monday until reaching the sanctuary of the church, right at the site to the left of the relics of the saint where the short tour ends.

So her question is asked by the people present and she also answers.

What about the miracle of the doctor whose testimony helped in the canonization of Mother Laura?

That man was high! It was no less what was said. Remember that you were diagnosed with a perforation in your esophagus and there was no possible way to cure it.

The doctors from the hospital, Pablo Tobón, those from San Vicente, and the schools of the Clínica las Américas themselves said: Carlitos, you are a doctor and you know that there is nothing to do.

But one night of those in which he suffered painfully, he assured that a nun appeared in bed in the middle of an existential crisis that he had because he was a man without problems, nor a difficult economic situation, socially and an outstanding professional but condemned to die.

His mother made him apply the anointings.

And he said that a great internal battle began. Asleep, a nun appeared.

He recognized that it was the blessed Laura who was thus talked about in Medellín. Without thinking twice and facing his complaining situation, he asked Laura's mother for help to get out of the situation.

And she pulled it out.

Bring his testimony to the Vatican. The church confirmed that he had been healed and for the glory of good he was able to attend the canonization of Mother Laura.

When he gave his testimony in the Vatican, he was asked:

Are you a believer?
And he replied: I am not my mother, yes.
What do you know about Mother Laura? What can any Catholic country know? (Paisa is a person from the same country)

Do you know the Sisters of Missionary Charity? - and he replied: No, I don't know.

Later he came to visit us and since then he has talked to people about how he was healed by God and the favor that Saint Laura did for him. He is a simple man of heart, very friendly and who was chosen by God to give his testimony in the Vatican.
