Adeyemi Adekanmi, affectionately known as Yemi, stands out as one of the most engaging students to have passed through our school in his quest to learn Spanish. Although it is true that numerous students have left a unique mark on our institution, Yemi has managed to conquer a special place in our hearts from the first day he started his classes.

At first, he faced certain difficulties as he was only fluent in the English language. His first words in Spanish, like “Hello, I'm Yemi” or “I'm from England,” were the ones he used when he arrived at school. However, over time and weeks of dedicated study, his progress in the language became evident. Little by little, we noticed how he became more fluent in his conversations, addressing more advanced topics that were previously inaccessible to him.

The most fascinating thing about Yemi, perhaps, lies in the special connection she cultivated with our teachers. Beyond the formal lessons and learning, we managed to establish a deeper bond, discovering details about him, such as his predilection for donuts and cupcakes, as well as his passion for the National soccer team of the city of Medellín.

Additionally, we had the opportunity to spend time outside the classroom, where Yemi gave us some English lessons, allowing us to understand the difficulties inherent in learning a new language. Laughing, she shared her experience saying: “You know how I feel when I learn Spanish.” These outside moments after school further strengthened our bond.

In short, Yemi taught us as much or more than we could teach him. It filled us with joy to know that he felt so comfortable that he plans to return in the future to relive all the experiences he had in Colombia.
