The Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo) is one of the main cultural events in Colombia, and the largest in literary matters. Every year, for two weeks at the end of April, the most important publishers in the country and the world come together in the Colombian capital to offer their visitors the best of contemporary letters and arts.

The first Bogotá Book Fair was organized in 1988, and since then its focus has been global. Year after year, the event has a guest country, more than 1.500 scheduled events and activities, and currently its average attendance already exceeds half a million visitors per edition.
It is a space dedicated to the language. There are a wide variety of activities such as talks, conferences, book presentations, literary workshops, and concerts of all genres. For this reason, the Book Fair becomes an excellent opportunity for all those who are learning Spanish to practice and improve their language skills, while enjoying the cultural repertoire that only an event of this magnitude has to offer.

In Spanish school Nueva Lengua We want you to be able to take full advantage of the experiences that the city has for you during your stay in Bogotá. So here we bring you four recommendations so that you can enjoy your visit to the Fair while you practice your Spanish in social and immersive contexts.

4 tips for learning and practicing Spanish during the FILBo:

  • Attend conferences: FILBo is a unique opportunity to have a close encounter with renowned authors in the literary field. Through the talks, conferences and conversations given by them, students will be able to perfect their auditive comprehension and expand your vocabulary.
  • Join the workshops: there are literary workshops in Spanish for all levels. These are an excellent opportunity to improve the deed y grammar in Spanish, as well as to meet other students and share doubts and ideas with them.
  • Acquire study material: First of all, and as its name says, this is a publishing fair, so bookstores usually offer their products with special prices and exclusive discounts. Take the opportunity to search for Spanish learning material: books, dictionaries, manuals and much more for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
  • Explore the Fair: In addition to literary activities, FILBo also offers all kinds of cultural events in Spanish, such as musical, theatrical, and dance performances. These are an excellent opportunity to practice Spanish in an authentic environment and learn in depth, in context and from within, what is the basis and essence of any language: its culture.

There is no doubt that the Bogotá Book Fair represents a unique opportunity for lovers of literature and students of Spanish from all over the world, and is a fundamental piece within the offer of city activities. But, along with it, there are a large number of tourist attractions, including museums, theaters and art galleries, which will make your stay in the capital of Colombia an unforgettable cultural and artistic experience.

In addition to attending FILBo every year with its international students, the Spanish school Nueva Lengua organizes literary workshops in which the main works of Latin American literature are read and discussed.
