I would recommend Nueva Lengua Escuela to any person who wants to to learn Spanish. It studied at Nueva Lengua in Bogota for about three months and really learned a great deal. When I arrived in Colombia I could hardly speak Spanish at all, but when I finished with my classes I was pretty much able to communicate with anyone. I went to Colombia because I was born in Bogotá and I wanted to learn Spanish, get to know the culture, and volunteer (and later on work as a psychologist) in the adoption agency where I was born. Nueva Lengua helped me to be able to do all of what I wanted to do!

I was able to do various cultural activities with the school as well that I enjoyed a lot. I went with the school on a bicycle tour around Bogotá. The tour started in the Candelaria and we were then able to visit many of the most important areas in the city. I was able to visit plaza de Bolívar, plaza de toros, and a company where they make fresh coffee. Because it happened to rain a lot during our bicycle tour we were able to stop and play tejo for a little while. Tejo is a traditional Colombian sport that does not exist in other places. Through this experience I was able to learn many aspects of Colombian culture. I also participated in a few dance classes at Nueva Lengua and learned various Latin rhythms such as salsa, merengue, and vallenato that I enjoyed learning very much.

Other things that I really enjoyed doing with the school were during the holiday season. I went with teachers, other staff members, and a few other students to a large school of 200 children located in a very poor area of Bogotá where we were able to give Christmas gifts, offer food and beverages, and engage in many activities with all of the children. We also went to a City called Capitanejo for a long weekend for a charity mission in order to give food and presents to people who live in the mountainous regions near this village. It was incredible to get to see these parts of Colombia and to spend tie with the staff members from Nueva Lengua who are all very cool, nice, intelligent, and fun people. It was an experience that I will never forget. Overall, in my experience of Nueva Lengua Escuela it is more than just a school, it is more like a family because it offers so many cultural activities and provides the opportunity to get to know the staff as more than just teachers and staff members.
