Immerse yourself in ecotourism with our students, discovering fascinating places such as the La Periquera waterfall, the blue wells and the mystical Sanctuary of Laguna de Iguaque. 

The Periquera Sanctuary, so called because of the previous presence of parakeets, dazzles with its beauty just half an hour from Villa de Leyva. Considered sacred by indigenous cultures, it is believed to connect with sacred places in Alaska and Patagonia, being a center to purify negative energies. 

Near Villa de Leyva, in the municipality of Boyacá, is the Iguaque Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, with 6.889 hectares at more than 3400 meters high. This sanctuary is home to moors and forests that are vital sources of water for municipalities such as Chiquiza, Arcabuco and Villa de Leyva. Discover a diversity of animals, from deer, bats, squirrels and foxes to monkeys and hummingbirds. As for the flora, marvel at orchids and frailejones. 

The lagoon in this sanctuary has a unique legend about the origin of humanity. According to the legend of Bachué (mother of the Muisca people), she emerges from this lagoon with her son, who grows up to become her companion and together they are in charge of populating the land. At the end, they return to the lagoon in the form of snakes.
