Ibagué, capital of the department of Tolima, known as the musical capital of Colombia, is a city surrounded by mountains and rivers perfect for ecotourism. In this city we have one of our headquarters Nueva Lengua, located in the downtown area, right next to the cathedral, on Carrera 3, one of the most commercial and tourist avenues in Ibagué.
In this venue, students from various countries of the world have stayed, studied Spanish and had fun getting to know the natural and cultural wonders that this Colombian territory offers. As a tourism plan, many students from Bogotá come to live this experience of cultural immersion.
Among the many students who have visited our headquarters in Ibagué we have Willo, a 26-year-old student from the Netherlands, an anthropologist by profession, who has a deep interest in learning Spanish for her master's research in anthropology.
During his apprenticeship he has shown his enthusiasm in learning about our culture and our daily language, since in his studies the interpersonal relationship with natives of the region is important. From his point of view: "Colombia offers an unparalleled richness in culture and biodiversity" hence his interest in learning our idiosyncrasies.
For her: “doing anthropology studies in Colombia allows us to get to know in depth the social structures of the population, their lifestyle and the conflicts of various kinds in which they have lived in order to recognize them and foster respect and tolerance between their culture and their divergent beliefs.”
To deepen this study, Willo decided to get to know the territory, which is why she has visited different places in Tolima, among them, and with our school, the Chicalá waterfalls, in the district of Payandé in the east of the department of Tolima. In his words: "the nature of this part of Colombia, being so close to the snow-capped mountains, has an ideal water and mountainous wealth for many cultures to coexist and have a lifestyle so different from those of the city" And it is that Normally, in these territories lives mainly peasant population and some indigenous communities.
His experience has been enriching, both personally and professionally. We hope that you achieve the desired results in your investigation and that in the future, in your country, you will know and learn more about the richness of this Colombian territory.
All the articles in this blog have been written by the teachers of our school and by students from different countries who traveled to Colombia to learn Spanish.
