On January 23rd we did a bike tour of Bogotá with students from England and Sweden. We got to know the history of some emblematic neighborhoods of the country's capital. We left the Avenida Chile shopping center, a shopping center near the school. We visited the El Campín soccer stadium; the Virgilio Barco library, the largest park in Bogotá: Simón Bolívar, where we took a walk along the main lake. Afterwards, we went to the famous Parkway of Bogotá, a very cultural and gastronomic place where we found several cafes. We finished our tour in the National Park, very close to important universities in the city, and then we went back to school.
It was a 20 km journey of approximately 4 hours. Its name is an architectural/natural tour precisely because of the old houses and the natural places that we visited. Hannah Kerrod, a student from England, assured that: “it was a sporting, cultural and very interesting experience to get to know the capital of the country better.” It was a sunny day and, apart from the good exercise that was done, we saw incredible places. We had a delicious lemonade to quench our thirst.
We learned that Bogotá is an epicenter of the bicycle. It is very interesting to see the road network full of cycle paths (exclusive roads for cyclists), this makes Bogotá a city that also bases its transport by bicycle. We saw hundreds of people passing by us riding this means of transport. Undoubtedly, this experience also taught us Spanish in a sporting, cultural and natural context.
