When traveling, we always wonder where we can find the authentic typical food of a country. Some will mention famous restaurants, recommendations they have heard or read on various websites. But the locals will always recommend the market squares, where you can discover the greatest variety of traditional dishes from a country or region, as in the case of Colombia, where you can taste dishes such as tumba paisa, changua, seafood, among others.

In this blog, we want to talk to you about a special square: La Plaza de La Perseverancia, located in the heart of the international center of Bogotá. Here, you can also find tourist sites such as the National Museum of Colombia and the recent Calle Bonita. This market square has a little-known history.

First of all, we must know that this place is an emblem, a building of great importance in Colombian culture and architecture, a reflection of the struggle and perseverance of the Bogotá people. It was built in the 19th century, when Bogotá was experiencing rapid growth and development. Originally, the area was an open-air market where local merchants gathered to exchange fresh produce and crafts. This bustling market became the epicenter of the city's economic activity.

Over time and after going through various circumstances, the Plaza de la Perseverancia has been transformed into a multicultural and multifunctional center, holding different fairs and gastronomic events where the most recognized dishes of Colombian gastronomy are presented. However, it maintains the traditional essence of the old stores that used to populate the streets of Bogotá.

Given its cultural importance, we carry out this activity by inviting our students to share lunch with us while we explore more about the gastronomy and culture of the city of Bogotá. On this occasion, our students ventured to try the exotic flavors of coastal foods, such as widower, catfish, and various seafood dishes. Vegetarian options and a wide variety of meat or chicken dishes are also offered, all prepared in a traditional way.

Don't be left wanting to try new flavors and immerse yourself in a new culture! Come, study, learn and discover with us. We'll be waiting for you.
