Students from our school visit one of the most representative places in Colombia every month, for its history, its natural wealth and the charm of its land.

More than 200 years ago, a great Spanish expedition arrived in a fertile, imposing and sacred land in search of El Dorado, an inexhaustible source of gold, a city built with bases of gold, a group of men who shone with the same intensity as the sun, a new land full of wealth. The desire to check if the legends were true increased the heartbeat. In the distance, the glow of a lagoon that made its way between a mountain told them that they had reached their destination: the Cacique lagoon. Guatavita.

For more than 10 years, people from all corners of the world have been arriving at the same point (a fertile, impressive and sacred land) in search of a new treasure: a world full of stories, a mixture of cultures, of ancestral traditions that are combine, and a new land that has not just been discovered.

In a 50 or 60 minute tour, Colombians and foreigners visit a chunzua, the model of a Muisca ceremonial house, they travel the roads that in pre-Columbian times, priests and caciques used to carry out the ritual of the Golden Man. Visitors reach the highest point of Peña Blanca, from where the cacique, the priests and the entire community had an inexhaustible view, as if the entire country could be seen from there.

Mountains of a green degrade that is combined with the aromas of the trees and flowers and with the song of the birds, a feeling of freedom and peace that captivates visitors and transports them to that magical moment when a golden raft arrived. At the center of the lagoon, a young man covered in gold dust was submerged to the bottom and while he was removing the gold from his body, all the people deposited the objects that with hard work they had made to worship their gods.
