Hey! I have been in Cartagena for 3 weeks and I studied Spanish at a language school called Nueva Lengua. Before I came here, I had some knowledge of Spanish and was able to have conversations about more than just the weather or how many siblings I have.

Cartagena is located on the north side of Colombia and close to the water. The heat here can range from 20 to 40 degrees. The city is a tourist city with a large number of tourists from different parts of the world. The nightlife here in Cartagena is very good and offers everything from English pubs to salsa bars. Before coming here, I had never danced salsa, bachata or reggaeton, but after taking dance classes, the nightlife became much more fun. Colombian music and its rhythms give you a happy mood just like the people you meet outside.

The feeling I had before I came here was that Colombia was a dangerous country and you could be easily robbed, but it's all really about common sense and now after 3 weeks I don't want to go home, but of course I will come back. Taking a taxi costs no more than 6000-8000 pesos and is safer than taking the bus.

During these 3 weeks my Spanish has developed tremendously and I have talked a lot with the locals and my Spanish family that I lived with.

The family I lived with is to recommend if you have knowledge of Spanish from before and you like to exercise.

I used to go to school from 08:00 to 12:00 because I had an intensive course, but if you just want regular lessons, you start at 09:00 and finish at 12.

If you would like to study Spanish, this school is recommended and the school offers many different activities in the afternoon which are generally free. I tried kayaking and soccer and it was fun.
