Immortal language that my elders spoke,
There is no human tongue as beautiful as you!

[...]

Immortal language, language of Cervantes,
the colonist of yesterday your glory sings.
You are swift torrent. you fall off
and you fall in a dazzling waterfall,
filling the space with sounds
and notes of fire, which go out
with that vague and mysterious rhythm
of a sigh of love loud and clear,
you express the passion, and the thought
for you he dresses in brilliant finery.

Immortal language, treasure of harmonies,
honor to you, sovereign world!

Jose Market. The Castilian language.

Learning a new language always connotes an adventure, sometimes exciting, other times frustrating, for the person who has decided to face it, and in Nueva Lengua, Especially in Nueva Lengua Cartagena, we are used to our students being fervent adventurers. Commonly our classrooms are filled with people whose souls pursue novelty, the knowledge of cultures and diverse thoughts, the search for understanding of other ways of seeing, feeling and living the world. People who have often left the comfort of their routines to get lost in the universe of smells, flavors, colors and shapes of our beloved Latin America.

But our students, unlike the classic tourist who is limited to exploring, seek to understand the culture from the assimilation of the language, thus allowing themselves to see these parts of the world, and their people, mixing with their inhabitants, eating what they eat, singing what they sing, dancing what they dance and loving what they love. And souls, perhaps at some point, whisper "art".

Our land, which has given birth to great artists and has inspired an infinite number of poems, continues to attract artists of diverse branches with its invisible threads, with the smell of pineapple, mango and guava, and embraces them, of course? With our beautiful Spanish language. Because as Luis Miguel says "when God created Eden he thought of America" and when God dreamed of beauty he came up with the Spanish or Castilian language.

Tyfun and Alice are three artists who came to study at Nueva Lengua, Tyfun is an actor, Alice is dedicated to music, both stated that they found Spanish as an extremely interesting language, they agreed when their teacher, a faithful lover of the language they speak, who assured that it was the most beautiful language that could be spoken . And of course, they also found Colombia as an ideal place to learn to speak this language, since many of the words in this “so difficult” Spanish have a geographical explanation.

Tayfun Baydar is a German actor of Turkish origin, came to Nueva Lengua with the desire to learn Spanish because In the last year I visited Spain a lot and have Friends living there. Just by listening to Spanish I could allready understand a little. So I decided to learn it properly. I love traveling and Spanish can help a lot all over the world. Because of course, Spanish is also one of the most spoken languages around the world and it is almost essential for those who want to travel through Latin America. Tayfun took the Spanish and dance courses, arriving as a beginner in both, but left school feeling satisfied with both processes.

The dance lessons are just fun and it's such a joy to have them with our teacher Luz. In the Cartagenian heat it also becomes a kind of workout.

I had two weeks of lesson in the beginners class until now, so I'm still a long way from being fluent but answer is YES.

Like many students of Nueva Lengua, the Turkish actor also stayed with a Colombian family where he also had the opportunity to interact with the language in a real context. Regarding his experience in a Cartagena home, he assured the family I was staying with was super lovely and nice and it was a pleasure being part of the family. I would recommend a homestay for those who can already speak and understand at least a little Spanish though as they speak pretty fast in Cartagena. Jokingly urging to emphasize the alveolar /n/ sound in his name, Tayfun, because our variant of the Spanish language apparently mispronounces it, said he would recommend Nueva Lengua without hesitation -to tell the truth, he said "YES", with capital letters- and that he hopes to return to Colombia to continue traveling and improve his Spanish.

Alyze Rabideau, for her part, was an American advanced-level student who came to Nueva Lengua to the Spanish and music course with the support of an organization that gave her a scholarship to learn to play an instrument typical of the culture of the chosen language. He wanted to play the triple, but when he arrived in Cartagena he met the bagpipe and was introduced to it by the hand of a traditional bagpiper, achieving a basic mastery of it in a short time, so that he could continue improving with practice, thus fulfilling his the purposes of your scholarship.

She is also a music teacher and also wanted to learn Spanish to be able to communicate with her students of Latino roots and their parents. For her, her experience in Nueva Lengua It was gratifying, this being his first formal approach to Spanish and he chose Colombia for its biodiversity, its music, its culture and its accent and because many people had told me that it was the best country to learn Spanish. He does not regret having come to Nueva Lengua Cartagena, because he also considers that it was a favorable space to feel more comfortable, more at home, due to the characteristics of the city.

They have not been the only ones, Michele Chung, from Hong Kong, who is still studying at Nueva Lengua, now at the Medellín headquarters, is a spontaneous theater actress, a type of theater more connected to psychology in which the actor or the theater group offers a "gift" to the spectators, who narrate their stories so that they can read them. interpret. Michele did it for me at one point and I have to say that it meant a different approach to theater than what I know, although it is a common hobby, but Michele wants to share a little more about her art when she achieves a higher level and fluency of it. that you currently own. Simon Häfeli writes a travel book that she doesn't want to show yet, and Kristi Scott also dreams of becoming a novelist.

And surely there are and will be many more, because the Spanish language and the stone corralito are the perfect combination for sensitive souls who seek transcendence through art.
