"The climate here is the best, it is neither cold nor hot, it is the perfect place to vacation," the taxi driver told me that took me from the Matecaña international airport to the hostel where I stayed for two nights in the city of Pereira.
Thus began my journey through coffee axis. I started with Pereira because it is the ideal place to enjoy the weather, the people, the gastronomy and the landscapes. This city is 30 minutes by plane from Bogotá, by bus about eight hours. Pereira is characterized by being industrial and its proximity to the most beautiful natural hot springs in the country, such as Santa Rosa de Cabal (Photo 1 and 3) and the San Vicente nature reserve (photo 2); both an hour and a half from the city.
This region is recognized for its unique landscape, richness of birds, flora and fauna that make it one of the regions most desired by travelers.
On the other hand, it is Salento, one of the richest populations in birds, water sources, coffee plantations and ecological trails, being the Cocora Valley the most famous. There is an incredible landscape recognized for its wax palms that measure more than 60 meters (the highest in the world) and declared as the National Tree of Colombia. This small town is also the birthplace of the Quindío River and is one of the entrances to the Los Nevados Natural Park, another important tourist attraction in the region.
As for gastronomy, there is a very varied offer of fruits, sweets, fish and especially sausages; famous for its unmatched flavor and quality.
In the coffee region region you will find a great diversity of hostels, hotels and inns where you can share with local people and other travelers like you, who enjoy nature and good energy.
So, if you are thinking of coming to Colombia and enjoying the landscapes, I invite you to get to know each place, and if you don't know how to speak Spanish, go ahead and learn it in one of the best cities: Bogotá, Medellín or Cartagena.
