I came to Cartagena for three reasons:
- To escape the Canadian winter;
- To visit Cartagena;
- To review and improve the Spanish you already knew.
The city of Cartagena has a lot of history and that is why it is very interesting. I really liked the walled old town, the historic center, the museums (especially the naval museum and the museum of the inquisition), the squares and the restaurants. Also, the cost of living is quite reasonable. But for me, the most pleasant thing was the hot and dry weather that I experienced every day that I was here.
At school Nueva Lengua I chose the intensive program from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The teachers are very competent and teach with patience and kindness. The school did everything possible to place me with students of the same level (advanced).
The cultural activities of the school are well organized and very interesting. I especially liked the visit we made to poor children and to a nursing home.
I lived with a family, in a total immersion context, for 4 weeks and I felt part of the family. I was able to talk over dinner and so practice my spanish every day at home. The food, although very different from what we eat in Canada, is tasty and was part of my learning about the cultural differences between countries.
