In addition to the well-known warmth of the inhabitants of the Caribbean, the flavor and joy of Cartagena are experienced through its spectacular nightlife. The history, architecture, gastronomy and climate of the city are combined in a rich variety of genres and musical rhythms that enrich the culture and are the basis of the identity of the Colombian coast.

By day, Cartagena de Indias shows the sublimity, beauty and elegance typical of the colonial towns of Colombia. Its imposing churches, its cobbled streets and, of course, its unmistakable walls, show why it is the main tourist destination in the country. The activities that can be done during the day range from historical and intellectual tours to sports and even extreme in its volcanoes and mangroves. There are plans focused on each type of interest, for all tastes and tourist objectives, so it will be impossible for you to get bored during your visit to the city.

But at sunset, the sun hides over the immense Caribbean Sea and the city is transformed, dressed in its best clothes and its elegance becomes pure flavor and joy. The Historic Center of Cartagena —also called the walled city—, together with the traditional colonial neighborhood of Getsemaní, are the heart of the Cartagena festivities, and there are so many possibilities that it offers that the best option is to set out to explore its streets and dare to live different and highly varied experiences. Definitely, if you travel to Cartagena and you don't go out partying, it's like you never went.

Partying in Cartagena is a complete experience: it involves your mind, your emotions and, above all, your body, so get ready to dance non-stop with foreigners and locals. You don't have to be an expert dancer to enjoy the nightlife of the Caribbean, but having enough bases to integrate without fear into the celebration will make your night a much better experience. Therefore, one of the most popular activities of the school Nueva Lengua is the group dance class, in which students learn the basic steps of salsa, merengue, bachata and reggaeton, while practicing their Spanish with the music and instructions of the teacher.

One of the rhythms studied is the champeta: a musical genre originating in the city. In case you don't know it, we tell you that the champeta is a vibrant and dynamic dance genre and style that has become an integral part of the cultural fabric of Cartagena. It is deeply rooted in the city's African heritage and has evolved over time to incorporate elements of other Caribbean and Latin American rhythms.

For many Cartagena, the champeta represents a celebration of cultural diversity and a source of pride in their black heritage. It is a cheerful and energetic genre that is often played at local parties, festivals and other cultural events. Music and dance create a sense of community and belonging, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together in a joyous celebration.

The perception of the champeta in Cartagena has undoubtedly been evolving towards a broad social acceptance. In its beginnings it was related to lower strata and crime; today, the rhythm has managed to cross borders and be recognized nationally and internationally, to the point where it is impossible to deny its impact on the culture, identity of the city and even on the economy of the entire region.

It is not easy to talk about champeta without dancing or feeling it. Here we take seriously that learning a language is not only understanding the grammar but a complete vital and bodily experience. That is why we invite you to be part of the dance classes in Nueva Lengua Cartagena for you to learn Spanish while you prepare to be the soul of the best parties in the Colombian Caribbean. See you here!
