Tejo is the only indigenous sport in Colombia, it has a deep relationship with Colombian culture and its origin dates back to pre-Columbian times: to the Muisca indigenous groups. He was born in the Cundiboyacenses highlands, more precisely in the municipality of Turmequé in the department of Boyacá. His game was part of a traditional ceremony or celebration of the region, even whoever won could have the right to choose his future spouse.

Over time it became popular throughout Colombia, becoming the national game of Colombia. In Bogotá there are many shuffleboard courts and it is a very fun plan with friends and family. Being so characteristic of our culture, we invite students from Nueva Lengua each month to form groups and play a game of shuffleboard.

The objective of this game is to throw a yew (metal element) and insert it into a horn, located about 19 meters away, which has four fuses (pyrotechnic devices) around it. The team that manages to introduce the most, explode the fuses or get close to the horn the greatest number of times wins.

"It's an amazing game, I really like it," says Jack Watkins, a student at nueva lengua and who has participated three times in this game. “We don't have this game in our country so I have to take the opportunity to play as much as I can here” he affirms.

The tejo is an excellent plan to spend an afternoon with friends and family. While the players participate, it is common to have a drink, listen to music and reinforce the friendship and affection between Colombian families. This warm atmosphere is felt by the students of Nueva Lengua. They live an unforgettable experience during their time at the school.
