From time to time students come to the school Nueva Lengua in Cartagena who have already known several places in Colombia and spent a lot of time in the country, are interested in speaking the Spanish language very well. This is the example of an American student named Patrick, who had already spent a lot of time in Brazil, and also got to know Argentina and Venezuela before arriving in Cartagena. His strong interest in colonial history and architecture had taken him everywhere in Latin America until he arrived in 2011 at “La Fantastica” as many call Cartagena and fell in love with all things “coastal”. They say that the arches and cobblestones of the towns of Brazil have their beauty, but the streets, alleys and corners of La Heroica, and above all the happiness, kindness and affection of the people made Patrick de Cartagena fall in love, and stole his heart. .

For Patrick, the beauty of the historic center, the energy of Getsemani, the great buildings and beaches of the tourist districts of Bocagrande, Castillo Grande and Laguito are all special and attract attention. But most of all, it is the "coastal people" (the native people of the Caribbean coast of Colombia) who are most attracted to someone who seeks an environment of happiness in daily life. When they say "thank God" it is not because of the habit of saying it, but with sincere gratitude for health, family, shelter and food. The combination of this attitude of gratitude and humility, with the energy of the sea and of the people, attracts a lot to Patrick, who found Cartagena as a perfect place to continue his studies of the science of wellness and meditation.

In Cartagena you can enjoy many elements required for happiness and well-being. The sun, the sea and the blue sky are beautiful. You can go on foot, by bicycle, or jog to take advantage of the natural beauty that it offers us. It is possible to climb the Pie de la Popa monument or jog next to the beach. The coastal food with fresh fish, tropical fruits, and variety is spectacular. For people who want to take care of their souls there are five churches in the small space of the historic center, which have great spiritual energy and Patrick loves them because of their great history. And at every moment you can enjoy the atmosphere of affection, happiness, and kindness of the people from the coast and their generosity. Patrick notes that Cartageneros have a great sense of humility and they show it day after day. In addition, he has realized that several times the most humble people of resources express that they would not change their situation in life with anyone for nothing, and that, with their family, a home and friends they already have everything they could want in this life.

You also see the attitude of appreciation for their work that the vast majority of workers have. Patrick tells the story of a vendor on the beach who simply says with a big smile about his job selling soft drinks 7 days a week in the inclement sun "You have to work." It is possible that the phrases "Thank God", "You have to work" and "You have to enjoy" define more than anything to the people of the coast.

In search of a home in Cartagena there are many options such as Getsemaní, the neighborhoods close to the center including Marbella, Manga and Bocagrande, or the luxurious historic center. Another option that is less known is a neighborhood called Crespo, where the international airport is. Patrick lives there in a building near the Crespo park. Crespo is a more traditional neighborhood where you can find everything you need. And it is also a perfect base to explore Colombia. Patrick can walk to the airport and take a domestic flight to all parts of the country because of how close it is.

Definitely if you come to Cartagena the key to have a good experience is the language. The culture of the coast is a spectacular mixture of indigenous, African and Spanish. So if what you want is to enjoy this wonderful city and learn this beautiful language, study spanish at school Nueva Lengua it will be your best choice!
