Alexandra is a student originally from England, who lived in Colombia for 4 years and worked as a biologist in the communities on the coast of Cartagena and in other Latin American countries. Thanks to these jobs in Spanish-speaking countries, Alexandra tells us that her Spanish has been mostly immersive, even adopting the Cartagena accent. Although she had previously had a similar experience learning French while living in Switzerland from a young age, she says this experience has been totally different. Here, everything has been much easier, since she has found the most kind, open, warm, charming people who are eager to speak Spanish with foreigners.

Going a little deeper into her experience in Cartagena, Alexandra remembers it with great affection. This place is very special to her, as are the fishermen of the region. Living on the coast is a unique experience in itself; the people are beyond friendly and open, and she has a unique way of life, which she feels very grateful to have been a part of. Being immersed in these spaces, she believes, is the best way to learn a language. Much of her Spanish has been learned and improved through conversations with fishermen and taxi drivers. Often finding herself stuck in repetitive conversations, she began trying more diverse and deeper conversations as a way to integrate more with people.

Additionally, she considers grammar to be a tool that can help her find new ways to express herself. Nueva Lengua It has given him the opportunity to delve into more complex grammatical structures that he has not yet completely mastered, such as the use of verbal tenses to express the future, hypotheses, among other aspects. He also considers that Bogotá is an ideal city to learn and improve Spanish, thanks to the pronunciation and use of more complex grammatical structures of its inhabitants.

But why Colombia? It really was an accident, but one of the happiest of his life. His partner is a coffee farmer and Colombia became the perfect country to settle in. She ended up here doing a project for her university and fell in love with the diversity of every corner of Colombia, not only in its biodiversity, but also in the culture of each region and its different accents.
