In a world where selfless acts are often overshadowed by the noise of violence and social media, there are people like Roger Rogers who shine through their dedication to serving others. Originally from Harrison, Arkansas, in the United States, this Christian missionary's journey took an unexpected turn when he was drawn to the vibrant landscapes and warm-hearted people of Colombia. What began as a simple visit soon transformed into a profound mission to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

A missionary discovering Colombia

“I am Roger Rogers,” he begins with a humble smile, “and I am a missionary and pastor in Colombia.” Roger's initial encounter with Colombia was serendipitous, prompted by a mission trip with his church in February. Despite having no prior plans to visit, the lure of Colombia captured his heart, prompting him to return just a few months later, in August.

A call to service

Roger's mission in Colombia transcends simple visits; is a commitment to fostering hope and compassion in often forgotten communities. From the bustling streets of Bogotá to the remote corners of the El Codito neighborhood, and the rural sector of the municipality of Soacha, Roger and his fellow church members are dedicated to a variety of relief efforts, ranging from providing essential resources to offering support spiritual through prayer, Bible study and always warm and comforting company.

Social Support and Volunteering in poor areas of Colombia

During his volunteer days, Roger and the other members of his church carried out concrete actions to improve the quality of life of communities in need. These initiatives included the donation of glasses for children, providing better vision for those in need, as well as the distribution of food to ensure that families' basic needs were met.

Embracing the Language

Central to this American missionary's mission was his desire to connect with the Colombian people on a deeper level. Recognizing the importance of communication and respect for cultural heritage, Roger set out on a journey to master the Spanish language. “I decided to really learn Spanish,” he shares sincerely. And that's how his dedication brought him here: to the Spanish school Nueva Lengua, where he immersed himself in a five-week language program, honing not only his language skills but also his confidence in conversing freely with local people and the Spanish-speaking members of his Christian church.

A Testimony of Perseverance

At 52, Roger challenges the notion that learning has an expiration date. His commitment to personal growth and continuous learning serves as an inspiration to all. “We never stop learning,” he says, emphasizing the timeless pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. Through his own journey, Roger encourages others to embrace the enriching experiences that come from leaving the comfort zone.

Fostering Unity in Faith

Despite denominational differences, both Roger's mission and the Spanish school's vocation for service Nueva Lengua They share a common foundation in faith in Christ. This spiritual unity transcends religious divisions and strengthens the shared commitment to serve others. In a world full of diversity, it is this bond in faith that unites people of different backgrounds and beliefs in the pursuit of a common good.

Roger Rogers' story is a testament to the transformative power of service and the limitless potential of the human spirit. As he continues to walk the path of compassion and understanding, his impact resonates beyond the borders of Colombia, lighting a beacon of hope for all who dare to follow in his footsteps.
