In Colombia we think that the best way to socialize and meet other people is to cheer up the stomach, share our favorite foods, while we talk and have a drink. For this reason, we have an enormous diversity of typical dishes that, in addition to being delicious, make us feel at home and allow us to share the flavor of our culture with other people.

As Nueva Lengua we have many students from different places, we believe that one of the best ways to interact with more people and get to know the culture of those who come from other places, is trying the traditional food that they want to share with us, while we practice spanish and we even saved lunch money!

This month we had the opportunity to share dishes of Colombia and its regions, and from countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, Türkiye, Guyana and many more.

De Colombia

We share buñuelos, which are traditional at Christmas, Creole potatoes, Tamales, carimañolas, typical of the Caribbean and fruits such as lulo or the feijoa, which we normally consume in juices with lunch. Also cheese with sandwich, a small Andean delicacy that combines salt and sweet, and even arequipe cabbages, An originally French dish that our students from France found strangely familiar!

Cristiane prepared an incredible Feijoada with black beans and pork, accompanied by rice, lemon and, of course, Farofa, of which not a crumb remained. Also, Luciana, brought the typical sweets in Brazil: Brigadiers or as they are called in Brazil: whiteies y blacks, he prepared them with a lot of chocolate, and, in his words, with lots of love.

Speaking of sweets, Murat, from Türkiye

He prepared (for the first time!) the traditional  Şejkerpare, a dessert based on flour and almonds, coated with syrup that curiously means "piece of sugar" in Turkish. You can imagine how sweet it is!

Further to the southeast, in Indonesia

Thanks to Yohannes we were able to taste the tumpeng, a dish for special occasions that, with its cone shape that symbolizes the characteristic mountains of this country, is prepared with rice and accompanied by the typical vegetables and meats of each region.

Our other Indonesian student prepared Rendang, a delicious type of curry with beef and spices a bit hot for the Colombian palate, but we also ate it until we finished it…

Finally, our friend from Germany

Eddy bought a bottle of white wine, which, he tells us, in Germany is very common to share with your loved ones.

In the end we all end up, as we say in Colombia, with a full belly and a happy heart! Thank you to all our students and for the new students, we are waiting for you. :)
